Winter Walking Kit List
Discover the essential winter kit you need to stay warm, safe and comfortable in cold-weather conditions. From clothing layers to equipment, this guide helps you prepare for any winter adventure.

Winter Equipment
- B2 Mountaineering Boots
- C1 / C2 Crampons
- Walking Ice Axe – T rated shaft, about 55cm.
- Helmet – Ensuring your hat / ear buff fits underneath.
- Walking Poles – In winter are an important safety tool.
- Goggles – Anti fog goggles, not too dark a lens.
- Sunglasses – UV 4
- Head Torch – Ensure your head torch is fully charged and have a spare head torch just incase.
- Mountaineering Backpack – 35L plus, and preferable one that can hold an ice axe.
- Dry bags – To protect your kit from the elements.
- Insulated Flask 500L
- Water bottle / Lunch / Snacks – Ideally 1L nalgene bottle and quick eating items.
- Any personal medication along with instructions.

Winter Clothing
- Base-layers – Thermal Top and trousers.
- Mid-layer Fleece Top
- Insulated Layer Top – Ideally a synthetic.
- Softshell Mountaineering Trousers
- Waterproof Jacket Hardshell – With climbers hood that fits over your helmet.
- Waterproof Trousers Hardshell
- 1 x Walking Glove – Thin Pair.
- 2 x Winter Gloves – Thicker pair.
- Beanie – A hat for under the helmet, no bobble hats.
- Neck Buff
- Gaiters – For walking in deep snow, if your trousers are not gaiter intergrated.
